Baldwin Technology Company Inc. was recently awarded an order for replacement of spray bars at the renowned newspaper printing group Mediaprint in Austria. The order follows a successful test on two towers at Mediaprint’s facility in Salzburg, Austria and comprises of a total of 296 World2 spray bars, replacing all of the older Baldwin Optima Spray Bars that were delivered as original equipment along with the presses. Delivery started during spring with the final shipment scheduled for September. The investment is part of a larger refurbishment of the presses with the intention to reduce operational cost and extend the lifetime of the press.
The World2 Spray Dampening System incorporates Baldwin’s most advanced valve and nozzle technology developed from more than 30 years of experience in Spray Dampening. Each nozzle is equipped with Baldwin’s patented Constant Clean technology, which efficiently prevents external blocking of the nozzles. The spray bar as well as the valve are designed for service and maintenance. The system is easy to retrofit and in most cases the existing Baldwin Spray Dampening controls and infrastructure can be used. This reduces the investment, creating a cost efficient way to incorporate the latest developments in an existing press. As with all Baldwin systems, the World2 Spray Dampening system is developed with the user’s needs in focus and with quality components to ensure long lasting reliable performance.
Erich Manhardt, Operations and Maintenance Director at Mediaprint, comments;
“We have thoroughly tested the new World2 spray bars at our site in Salzburg. The tests, along with our long relationship with Baldwin, make us confident that we made the right decision. We have been very happy with the Optima system but it is now approaching the end of its life span and we are therefore very pleased to be able to continue the partnership with Baldwin and look forward to reaping the proven benefits of the new system on all of our presses.”
“I’m very excited about this important order. Mediaprint is a respected quality printer and their products represent a bench mark to many Central European Newspaper printers. Their choice to continue to place their trust in Baldwin in order to deliver a vital component to the core offset process is a quality stamp on our product as well as on our service. The first installations are done and we are excited to continue upgrading all of their sites, Unlocking Potential for our customer.” says Per Stenflo, Vice President Product Line Spray at Baldwin Technology Company, Inc.

The printing center in Kärnten is located just off the A2 at St. Andrae. Here, the Kärnten- and Steiermark editions of “Die Krone” and die Kärntner Tageszeitung are printed on a daily basis, using 3 production lines. The printing center in Salzburg is a joint project of Mediaprint and die Salzburger Nachrichten. The site operates two presses, each with a shipping line.
